Tihar organises Mini Marathon to convey luck to Rio athletes

A day before the official opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics 2016, Tihar Jail organised a mini marathon where more than 300 inmates, convicts as well as under-trials, took part to cheer for the Indian Athletes on Friday morning.

According to the senior officials of the jail, the event along with a cultural programme was hosted by Central Jail 1 along with other jails. Talking about the motive behind the event, an official from the Delhi Prisons Authority said that the Long Run titled Mini Marathon was organised “to convey good wishes to the Indian athletes and players who will be taking part in the Rio Olympics.”

“Hundreds of other inmates and officers as well staff of the prison were in attendance to cheer up the participants,” said a senior jail official. Sudhir Yadav, Director General of Delhi Prisons flagged off the participants of the mini marathon. Addressing the gathering, Yadav shared how sports is very important in everyone’s life. Top 10 winners were given suitable rewards.
