Two officials of Tihar jail were involved in a scuffle inside a car parked in Janakpuri area of West Delhi on Tuesday night. The entire incident was videographed by one of the locals who witnessed it on the road where the duo – identified as head warden Anil Upreti and warden Digambar – were involved in a scuffle near the Central jail premises. They were allegedly in an inebriated state. According to the jail sources, they are likely to be suspended.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 9.30 pm on February 1 when the duo started hitting each other inside a stationary car. “We have taken serious note of the video and will make sure that strict action is taken against the two jail staffers, head warder Anil Upreti and warder Digambar over their drunken brawl,” said a senior police official.
“Such an act is unbecoming of government servants and the process is underway to suspend them,” said Mukesh Prasad, Additional IG (Prisons) and spokesperson for the Tihar prison complex. Upreti is said to be posted in the CCTV room and Digambar at Jail No.7 of the prison.
