Power supply was paralysed in some parts of Delhi and NCR due to heavy thunderstorms on Thursday evening leaving the citizens in the dark. In addition to technical glitches in transformers and distribution lines, five towers of high-tension lines were damaged badly.
‘The power went off as soon as the storm started and we were left in the dark for the whole night,’ said Mahender Singh, a citizen of Rohini area.
‘Even during the day, the power supply was intermittent,’ he added. The power distribution companies also accepted the fault in several areas but claimed to have fixed the glitches by Friday afternoon. Some of the severely-affected areas in Delhi were Rohini, Shalimar Bagh, Pitampura, Mangolpuri, Wazirpur, Hauz Khas, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, Nangloi, Najafgarh and parts of east Delhi.
‘The major problem was caused by faults in two transmission towers of Delhi Transco. We have restored the supply through alternate routes,’ said spokesperson of TPDDL, a power distributing company.
