Three traffic policemen face probe for taking bribe

In order to combat corruption within the police department in the national Capital, the Vigilance Branch of the Delhi Police initiated departmental inquiry against three traffic policemen in two separate incidents who were caught taking bribe from commercial vehicle drivers.

According to the police, the first incident took place on December 7 at the Minto Road red light when the vigilance team through a surprise check found out that two traffic officials identified as Head constable Naresh Kumar and Constable Kuldeep were demanding money from commercial vehicle drivers from whom they had taken their documents and taking Rs 100 cash. In return they were not issuing challans. 

Meanwhile, in the second incident which took place on December 10, the Assistant Commissioner of Police found out that a Constable identified as Bhup Singh was collecting illegal entry cash of Rs 300 from a Eeco van driver at the Mandi House round about. Based on these incidents, all the three are facing probe. According to a Vigilance Branch official, the checks were carried out by Special Surveillance Teams who are equipped with video surveillance gadgets. Through this measure, the teams keep an eye on Delhi Police personnels who indulge in any act of corruption and particularly focus on the three wings- Traffic police, PCR vans and Beat officers. According to the data provided by the department, they have conducted 350 checks this year on the basis of which, one case has been registered against a traffic constable while departmental inquiry has been initiated against 20 traffic personnel and three PCR personnels.
