Gautam firmly believes that his development work, people friendly image, and no strong opponents from BJP and Aam Aadmi Party will be decisive factors in the upcoming elections.
Gautam, a post-graduate in Hindi, is both a businessman and into agriculture. ‘I have completed several developmental projects. I have constructed schools, buildings for Maharaja Agrasen College as well as Shaheed Rajguru College for women. I have also built guest houses in places such as Kondli, Kalyanpuri and Khichri Pur area over the years,’ said Gautam.
But contrary to the MLA’s claims of development works in the area, one can see that even basic amenities have not been made available to the people. Several localities, including Gharoli-dairy Colony where the MLA is said to have a house, suffer from water shortage.
‘There is no development work here in this locality. All these areas near the Ghazipur, Gharoli and Ghazipur dairy colonies, Indira Camp and Harijan Basti are suffering from poor water supply. These areas are in need of pipelines. Cleanliness, drainage, poor roads and power cuts are chronic problems. There is no playground and parks for children,’ said Manoj Kumar, Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) candidate from the Kondli seat.
Local residents complain of rising crime rate and falling educational standards. ‘There are only about 15 government schools, that too in bad shape,’ says Rachna Sareen, a local resident in Kondli area.
The local residents also slam the sitting MLA for neglecting the problems such as endless traffic jams, for the past 15 years. The constituency is flanked by UP and Ghazipur landfill on either side.
His opponents criticised him for not being able to connect the area to the Delhi Metro network, while the nearby areas have been connected. Meanwhile, Gautam said that if he wins the coming election then he would try his best to get his area connected with Delhi Metro.
