Three stalkers arrested again for repeat offence

All five men were earlier arrested for stalking and harassing the victim but were later released on bail. A day later, after coming out on bail, they all attacked her again along with her mother. The arrested trio has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

According to senior police officers, on May 14, the 21-year-old woman filed a complaint against five of her neighbours who had been stalking, abusing and threatening her for some time. Based on her complaint, a case was registered at Anand Parbat police station and the five persons identified as Sonu, Govinda, Chunnu, Bunty and Shankar were arrested.

“However, since the case was registered under Section 354 (D) (stalking) which is a bailable offence, all the five were released on the same day,” said a senior police officer of the Central district.

Police said that on May 15 when the woman along with her mother was going somewhere, they were attacked by the five men. The incident has also been captured on the CCTV cameras of the nearby shops.

Based on the CCTV footage and the complaints of the woman, a case of molestation along with other relevant sections was registered and Sonu, Chunnu and Govinda were arrested. However, the other two persons, Bunty and Shankar are still absconding. Police said that search operations are on to nab the other accused.

It should be noted that last year, a 19 -year-old girl called Meenakshi, was brutally stabbed to death by two men at Anand Parbat area.  The two accused, in this case, had been stalking her for around two years. This case had led to widespread debate on women safety in the national Capital.
