Three Indians in semifinals in ITF Women's Tournament

Indians had a productive day as three of them made it to the semifinals in the ITF Women's Tennis Tournament here today.

Poojashree Venkatesh, Sharmada Balu and Natasha Palha qualified for the last four stage after winning their respective matches at the R K Khanna Tennis Stadium.

Poojashree convincingly defeated S Peddi Reddy 6-2 6-0 in an hour and two minutes.

Sharmada Balu continued her fine run in the tournament by scalping another seed on her way to the semifinals. She beat Ai Koga of Japan 6-4 7-5 in a hard fought battle.

She will next take on compatriot Natasha Palha who had to hold on to her nerves to ward off the challenge of Etee Maheta in the longest match of the day. Palha eventually won 6-4 3-6 7-5.

The only Indian to miss out on a semifinal spot was Ratnika Batra as she went down fighting to Lee Pei-Chi 5-7 5-7.
