Three in net for drug trafficking, 160-kg contraband seized

With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi Police Special Cell has busted a gang for allegedly involved in drug trafficking. About 160 kg of contraband (ganja) and two cars have been seized from their possession, police said.

The police said the gang used to traffic narcotics from Odisha to Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana by apprehending three persons. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Mohd Hafiz (31), Babu Roy (31) and Jeevan Mondol (31). 

A few months ago, the police received an input that Hafiz, a resident of Okhla, was involved in the sale of huge quantity of ganja in Delhi and NCR.  On Saturday, the police learnt that Hafiz’s accomplices – Babu Roy and Jeevan Mondol – were coming Delhi from Odisha in a white Maruti car, bearing a West Bengal number, with a huge consignment of the contraband. They were coming to deliver the contraband to Hafiz in the Yamuna Khadar area of Jaitpur around 8 am, police said.

A trap was laid and the trio was arrested. The police said Roy and Mondol transferred the narcotic packets to Hafiz’s car. The policemen soon overpowered them and 16 packets of the contraband, weighing 160 kg, was seized from their possession.

The accused have been interrogated about the source of the contraband, its sale and consumption. According to the police, the contraband brought from Balasore in Odisha was supplied to Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The police said in the past 10 months, Roy and Mondol had supplied over 3,500 kg of ganja worth over Rs 1 crore to Hafiz, who further sold it to his contacts here and other states.
