Three held in separate cases of corruption

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector of the Chandigarh Police Crime Branch for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a person whose brother is lodged in jail under the Arms Act.
The accused had demanded the bribe to help out the complainant’s brother and had even assured bail to him. A trap was laid and the police officer was caught red-handed. In another case, the agency has arrested a Food Corporation of India (FCI) official, Kurukshetra, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 for clearing Provident Fund (PF) dues of a retired employee. A case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The complainant alleged that an assistant working in the District Office of FCI, Kurukshetra, had demanded Rs 10,000 to clear PF dues of a retired FCI employee, who is the father of the complainant. The bribe amount was later settled at Rs 7,000. A trap was laid and the official was caught red-handed. In the third case, the CBI has arrested a reader working in the court of SDM (south), Chandigarh, in a bribery case of Rs 2,000. A case was registered under Section 7 of the PCA, 1988. The complaint alleged that the reader had demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to close a case. The CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught.
