Three held in fake job racket case

A team of officers of anti-robbery Crime Branch of Malviya Nagar , Delhi, has arrested a Deputy Commandant of Assam Rifles, Ravinder Chauhan, 45, for running a fake job racket.

‘He duped 38 innocent villagers to the tune of more than a crore, on the pretext of getting them jobs in Assam Rifles and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. On the basis of this complaint, a case under proper sections was registered in 2011 and the investigation was taken up by Crime Branch,’ said a police official.

According to the police, the accused, Chauhan, was arrested from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station. On interrogation, he admitted that he used to impersonate as a major of the Indian Army and collected crores of rupees from villagers.

He was arrested after sustained interrogation. He disclosed that one Archana Sinha was the mastermind of this whole racket. The accused was taken in police custody and a raid was conducted at Jorhat (Assam) and later, accused Sinha was also arrested from Jorhat.

‘Rs 5.19 lakh in cash, along with 21 fake seals of Assam Rifles and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than 200 fake provisional appointment letters of Assam Rifles and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and a list of about 2,000 prospective candidates were recovered at the instance of Sinha,’ said a police official.

Sinha also disclosed that she was running the racket with the help of  one Kam Dev Das of Assam Rifles. Both Sinha and Chauhan were arrested while Das is absconding. He was sent by the authorities of Assam Rifles to join the investigation but he did not report to the Crime Branch.

Acting on a tip-off, police came to know that Das was coming to Saket Court complex to consult an advocate. He was then arrested from there. ‘Further investigation is in progress,’ said a police official.
