Three cops in duty run over, accused held

A 28-year-old man tried to runover three police men in Anand Vihar at east Delhi at a police picket on Tuesday night. One of the cops is severely injured and is undergoing treatment. Yogesh Sharma, 28, the accused, who stays in Mayur Vihar, has been arrested. On the fateful night, the three police men were on their duty, checking the vehicles at Anand Vihar. At around 11pm, a speeding car coming from the direction of Seemapuri, caught the attention of the officials, and they signalled it to stop.  According to the police, the car first slowed down, but when the officials came near the car,  the accused revved the engine and fled the scene severely injuring one of the cops. ‘He went through the barricades, and fled the spot, running over the cops,’ said the police. The head constable, despite being injured,  immediately contacted the other check posts with the details of the car. Eventually, the car and the drunk driver was apprehended near Gazipur flyover. ‘The police men, head constable Rajbir Singh and constables Nanakchand and Ashwini have been admitted to Hardinge Medical College,’ said a police official. ‘The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is in process,’ added the official.
