Three bizmen apprehended after cops find Rs 3L banned notes

Three businessmen were apprehended by the Delhi Police, when they were found to be in possession of old currency notes to the tune of Rs 3 lakh in Shahdra District’s Geeta Colony area on Wednesday. The money was found by two constables who were on patrolling duty and they returned the money to their seniors. The I-T department has been contacted by the police in this regard.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening when Constable Satender and Constable Vineet were on their patrolling duty. While the two of them were on duty, they noticed a Swift Dzire car lying unattended. This raised their suspicion and they tried to inquire about the occupants of the car.

However, they found no one but found old currency notes worth Rs 3 lakh. Within minutes, the three businessmen- Ashish Maheshwari, Ajay Verma and Avinesh Singh reached the car. When they were asked about the cash, they were unable to produce a satisfactory answer after which they were apprehended.

“The two constables had found 300 notes of Rs 500 and 150 notes of Rs 1,000. It was also found that it was Ashish’s money. But he was unable to produce the source of his income,” said a senior police official.
