This summer, Delhi Police is left thirsty

If you can't find police personnel at Delhi police stations when you go to lodge a complaint, try the kiosks and shops nearby that sell water. They probably are busy bullying shopkeepers to 'sell' them water for free.

Apparently, the police stations in Delhi face shortage of this very basic requirement. Interestingly, last month, water coolers were installed at many police stations – Mansarovar Park, Shahadra and Welcome police stations being some of them – to provide cold, drinking water to the cops. But nothing has been done to replenish water through the day. The water is filled once in the morning and again much later in the evening. The superiors perhaps think that their responsibilities rest at getting water coolers installed. By noon, whatever little water is left in the cooler is also emptied, and the cops are forced to find other ways to quench their thirst, setting in motion a vicious cycle. If the cops, fearing higher authorities, do not complain, preferring to invade nearby shops and taking water from them, the shopkeepers, fearing the police, vent out their frustrations on innocent customers.

In some police stations, the cops have begun to organise their own water supply with the help of those living near the police station.

Rajan Bhagat, spokesperson of the Delhi Police said, 'I am not aware of that police stations are facing water crisis. I'll have to get it checked.'
