Third Front after LS polls, says Mulayam

Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said that the third front would come into existence only after the results of the 2014 general elections were declared. ‘The formation of the third front would be the natural fallout of the 2014 elections as neither the Congress, nor the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would have enough seats in their kitty to form the government,’ Yadav told reporters on Monday.

Though he exuded confidence that the next prime minister would be from the third front, Yadav said going for a pre-poll alliance could only create friction. ‘The third front formation is not possible now, as differences can crop up among parties on ticket distribution and seat sharing,’ Yadav said.
On the possibility of who would be heading the third front, Yadav said, ‘We have not decided on the PM candidate yet. The Third Front will take a call on its PM nominee after the elections.’ He also confirmed that his party is in talks with the Left leaders on the issue. Mulayam further hinted that he will meet CPM general secretary Prakash Karat soon and hold discussions on the various political possibilities.

‘We are holding talks in this regard with Prakash Karatji and AB Bardhanji. Karat ji has invited me to attend the meeting at Talkatora in Delhi on October 30. I and some other like-minded big leaders will attend the meeting,’ said Yadav. The BJP, however, dismissed Mulayam Singh’s comments. ‘These third and fourth front talks are like expired poll chocolates, it is raised every time during elections,’ said BJP’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. He added these fronts ‘are full of prime ministerial candidates.’
