‘There is money to give to Mongolia but none to pay safai karamcharis from Mangolpuri’

Terming the BJP-led MCDs of Delhi “world’s most corrupt”, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday launched a massive attack on the saffron party and held them responsible for turning the national Capital into a dustbin.

AAP accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “abandoning” the national Capital even when it is reeling under severe sanitation crisis. AAP said BJP-led MCDs have miserably failed in performing their basic duties and their functioning has totally collapsed.

AAP said there was no reason for the sanitation workers’ strike to have continued after the announcement by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday that Rs 500 crore will be immediately released for payment of their salary arrears.

“There is money to give to <g data-gr-id="37">Mongolia</g> but none to pay to the <g data-gr-id="53">safai</g> <g data-gr-id="54">karamcharis</g> (sanitation workers) from Mangolpuri,” said senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh.

“Rs 18,00 crore loan was given to the MCD during Sheila Dikshit’s government. Now, the MCD is demanding more money. Even before the Delhi high court’s order we had released money for the MCD sanitation workers. We released the funds on Thursday,” said senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey.

He further alleged that BJP has turned Delhi into a dustbin. He added: “There are 22,000 MCD employees who do not exist but are paid salaries regularly. <g data-gr-id="45">Investigation</g> must be done as to who actually takes their salaries”.

“<g data-gr-id="52">Swachh</g> Bharat Abhiyan was started with a lot of <g data-gr-id="40">publicity</g> but I’m forced to say that BJP-led MCD is one of <g data-gr-id="39">world’s</g> most corrupt bodies,” said Pandey.

Sanjay Singh added: “Rs 1,800 <g data-gr-id="33">crore-loan</g> was given to the MCD during Sheila Dikshit’s government.
Now, the MCD is demanding more money. Where did the money go,” he questioned.

AAP said Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley had allocated a sum of Rs 2,000 crore for the MCD of which not a single rupee has been released so far.

Singh further added that AAP MLAs and leaders would run cleanliness campaigns in their respective areas on Saturday.

The party has also lined up rallies in all the wards for making people aware of the BJP’s “incompetence” and apathy towards addressing this issue.
