The ongoing feud between Delhi police and Mumbai police has repeatedly been mentioned during the ongoing probe into the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
SN Srivastava, special commissioner, special cell during a face-to-face interaction with media persons was asked about the competition between the two police forces.
Though be first tried to evade answering and called the questions ‘Stupid’, he later spoke up against Mumbai police and said, ‘Why compete with Mumbai police? There are better forces to compete with.’ He added ‘If there is competition, it must be on their side. We don’t have time to indulge in any sort of competition.’
The differences between Mumbai police and Delhi police have allegedly affected progress in the spot-fixing probe. On Thursday, when Srivastava was asked about the allegations made by Vindoo Dara Singh in media that various children of politicians were also involved in the betting, he said, ‘Vindoo is not our accused. Mumbai police had arrested him not us.’ A source added, ‘Vindoo Dara Singh, who was arrested by Mumbai police has been released on bail. However, MCOCA has been invoked against the players and bookies arrested by Delhi police.’
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals cricketer Ankeet Chavan, arrested in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing scandal, on Thursday surrendered before a Delhi court after his 2 June marriage and was sent to judicial custody till 18 June. The player had earlier been granted interim bail by a Delhi court till June 6 for his marriage.
