‘I wanted to do something about Versova,’ says Masurkar, the zone in Mumbai that is full of people who are trying to get a break in the big world of Bollywood. Mayank Tewari, who seems to have stumbled into the role of Mainak by chance, is a stand up comic and writer. He has co-written Ragini MMS. As he jumps to the other side of the camera, Tewari says, ‘The movie has a lot of awkward comedy, it isn’t the regular bag of goofs. It is quirky, realistic.’
Mainak (Tewari), a hustler and Dulal (Naveen Kasturia), a brooding poet are writing partners who are struggling in Bollywood. Perennially hungry and horny, they lie, drink, smoke weed, name drop, lurk in bookshops and attend poetry readings to cling on to unsuspecting women. The movie is a slacker comedy about three days in the lives of Mainak and Dulal which makes them revaluate life plans. The movie explores the world of migrant writers in the city’s western suburbs. For now the movie is poised for a MAMI Mumbai Film Festival debut, here’s hoping this gem hits the
multiplexes soon!
