‘The scene is booming in India’

Music in the city is clearly getting global this week it seems. After a musician from London, the Capital will now play host to the gods of Egyptian Trance music duo — Aly & Fila — as part of live music platform Smirnoff Next. The duo is known for their sweeping trance and are here in town to make you all groove to their music. Very much in love with their music and culture, they spoke to Millennium Post about their experience in India. Excerpts:

What has defined and inspired your music?

We define our music as uplifting euphoric trance. Paul Van Dyk was our early musical influence. We have our own style, we have stuck to what we believe in. We are very proud of being Egyptian and we love to express our history and heritage through our music. Our famous tracks like
Eye of Horus
and Spirit of Ka draw influence from Egyptian culture.

What will you be playing at the event?

We are looking forward to the Smirnoff Next platform. So we are all set to have our average night turn into an extraordinary one! We have many new singles that we would be playing. Coming Home, Perfect Love, Fire is land are some of them.

You are in the list of top 100 DJs. How has the journey been?

It feels great! When we broke through in around 2006, it was very unusual for a trance DJ/producers to be of Egypt. But it added to our mystical aura. We have learnt to be very patient and allow things to grow. We knew that we had to work very hard to be part of the top 100. We were in top 20 a year before and it feels really good to be voted high up once again. We would like to thank everyone for the support, especially India.

How has the interaction with the Indian audience been?

There is a huge following of trance music in India and we are happy to reach out to our fans through the Smirnoff Next platform. This is our third visit to India. The last time we played was at Sunburn Mumbai. Here, different cities have different crowds and each city has a great atmosphere. The scene is really booming in India right now, being part of this journey with Smirnoff is a great feeling for us.

Any plans to collate Indian music with Egyptian Trance?

We have never really thought about that, but that could be really interesting!

What are your further plans?

More singles, remixes, events and a new artist album called Quiet Storm.
