The Herculean task of launching our English daily in a not-so-optimistic economic scenario, without the support of any political party or backing of any particular corporate house, the dream has finally been realised and a year has flown by before we even knew it.
With the best wishes of many friends and sustained belief of our advertisers, we have emerged as a credible voice in a very crowded and voluble market, keeping to our main mission of reporting the facts without fear or favour, without manipulation or embellishment. We stand proudly by our motto, no half-truths, even though the temptation to twist the facts towards various vested interests or to coerce and bluff our way to success were many. Our manpower is limited and so are our resources. As we promised in the beginning, we are still the small guy fighting in the corner for the common man. Even though doomsday is being predicted for the Indian economy, the common man still survives, and dare we say, somewhat prospers, and as long as the common is left standing, so will we be. The ordinary man’s conviction and willingness to strive to better himself, and his limitless belief in the future, is reflected in our work ethic. Our colleagues have kept the faith in spite of the naysayers and have matched us step for step, and indeed, gone that extra mile to bring this dream to fruition. This paper is their achievement.
Our hard work has received appreciation from all quarters and our ability to buck the trend has sent many new supporters our way. Like the common man, we believe the present may be hard but we must forge onwards relentlessly to a new and better day. We are absolutely certain that our belief in India’s vitality and vision, its ability to overcome all odds, will be amply rewarded and we will grow and prosper along with our economy, which is on the cusp of a new boom set to take it soaring to new heights. We profusely thank our supporters and well-wishers for their unalloyed belief in our capabilities and hope they will stand by us in the future and accompany us on this exciting journey as we chart the story of India’s growth as a burgeoning superpower.
