A week after its landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to organise a rally to thank its volunteers some time next week. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to address the rally.
“Our volunteers have done a commendable job, after the (party’s) debacle in the Lok Sabha elections last year. All were bashing us for quitting the government. Our decision backfired. Our volunteers not only faced the ire of people, but also convinced them to vote for AAP again. They did door-to-door campaigning and spread the party’s message for a better Delhi. It was their selfless efforts that helped the party record a landslide victory in the Delhi elections,” said a senior AAP leader on the condition of anonymity.
“Now, AAP has formed the government in Delhi. Our leaders want to thank them (volunteers) for their dedication and support to the party. We have approached Arvindji who is likely to address volunteers at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. Other senior party leaders will also address 35 rallies in other parts of the city and meet volunteers,” he added.
AAP volunteers have allegedly been subjected to harassment in the past few months. Earlier, Kejriwal had alleged that the party’s opponents were trying to lure its volunteers ahead of the February 7 Delhi polls. The party has seen a dramatic surge in membership since it came to power in Delhi. The party claims that around 15,000 people are joining it across the country daily.
