Thai police check new CCTV footage for temple blast link

Thai police on Saturday examined new CCTV footage showing an unidentified man dropping a package into a canal where a second explosion had taken place a day after the country’s worst terror attack here that killed 20 people though no credible leads have emerged in the case so far.

Police have failed to make any arrests as the hunt intensified for perpetrators of the devastating blast at the popular Brahma shrine here on Monday that also left 56 people injured in hospital.

CCTV video obtained by local media showed a man in a blue t-shirt kicking the package off a footbridge in the same spot where a device exploded on Tuesday without injuries.

Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said the force was looking for the man for questioning, even though it remains doubtful whether his actions were linked to the blasts as police said he was “more like a witness”. Little evidence has emerged from Monday’s attack, which Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-<g data-gr-id="21">ocha</g> called Thailand’s worst-ever. Police released a sketch and video of their main suspect, who has been described as a foreigner and is believed to have been working as part of a network.

Meanwhile, the reward for the main bombing suspect went up to 10 million baht ($335,000) with former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra’s son offering 7 million <g data-gr-id="19">baht</g> for the arrest of those behind the blast in the temple, in addition to the 3 million <g data-gr-id="20">baht</g> offered by authorities.
