‘Tests for dengue will be conducted in mohalla clinics’

To prevent the outbreak of dengue, this time the Delhi government will be using the services of mohalla clinics.  With the onset of monsoon in the city, the fear of diseases like dengue and chikungunya has risen. There have also been certain cases of dengue which have been reported from the city hospitals.   

Responding to the query of city’s preparedness of dealing with dengue and the role of mohalla clinics this time in tackling the spread of the vector borne disease, Health Minister of Delhi Satyendar Jain along with senior health officials mentioned the importance of mohalla clinics. 

In mentioning the significant role that these units will play, Jain said: “All the dengue related tests will be held at the mohalla clinics.” Jain also highlighted that all the doctors and the staff working in the mohalla clinics are trained by a special team from Department of Health and Family Welfare (DHF&W) to deal with patients in case of an outbreak. 

In highlighting the situation, at present it is not worrisome and there are lots of other diseases in the city which are being treated at the mohalla clinics, Jain said: “Dengue is a disease that can be cured at home if proper measures are taken. In Delhi today, there are various other diseases also that are been treated at mohalla clinics.” 

A senior health official at Directorate General Health Services (DGHS) responsible for dengue control said: “We have distributed the handbooks related to prevention of dengue to all doctors at the mohalla clinics and have also held a session with respect to dengue prevention measures.” When asked that will the dengue vaccines be distributed in the clinics, the official added: “Since it has not been approved in India as of now, it will not be done.”
