The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday stressed that the Telangana Bill for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh is incomplete and need some amendments to discuss the concerns of Seemandhra region.
Senior party leader Venkaiah Naidu, who has participated in the protest organised by the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit in the national capital for amendments in the bill, said, ‘Our party is committed for the division of the state and we want some amendments because it is not comprehensive and does not address the concerns of people of different regions.’
‘We are in the favour of creation of the new state of Telangana. The BJP will stand by the Seemandhra people as far as their problems are concerned. It is the ruling party’s responsibility to understand the problems before going for the amendments. It is also their responsibility to take everybody into account and get the bill passed,’ Naidu said.
On the context of amendments in the bill, which is supposed to be finalise during the winter session beginning on 5 February, he said, ‘The UPA government should declare in the bill a new capital for Telangana. To bring investors for the development there should be a 10-year tax holiday to woo them for establishing their units. The airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati airports should be upgraded into international airports.’
Meanwhile, in a separate development two Independent Lok Sabha members – Putul Kumari and Om Prakash Yadav– from Bihar joined BJP ahead of the general elections. Putul got elected from Banka constituency in November, 2010 after her husband and sitting MP Digvijay Singh had expired. Om Prakash Yadav represents Siwan Lok Sabha seat.
In the morning they met party president Rajnath Singh and joined the party. The party is likely to induct some more leaders in the coming days.
