Tehri Dam to releases additional water during Kumbh Mela

To provide proper water flow for the devotees of Kumbh, Uttar Pradesh government held talks with THDC India Limited for release of additional water for Allahabad Kumbh Mela -2013. Major important holy baths are scheduled on 14 January (Makra Sankranti), 15 February (Basant Panchami), 25 February (Maghi Purnima), and 10 March (Shiv Ratri). On an average 18-20 days are required to reach this additional water to Allahabad. Keeping in view this need Tehri Dam will release 250 cumecs water from 21 December to 28 February 2013. During this period the water flow of Ganga remains around 50-70 cumecs. The utility of Tehri Dam project can be analysed in the light of this vital contribution.
