Tehreek-e-Taliban arm plotting Wagah border terror attack

A letter provided to Indian security forces by the Pakistani Intelligence warned that Fazal Ullah group of Tehreek-e-Taliban was planning a terror attack on the Wagah border with India during the Independence Day celebrations in the two countries.

The letter has been sent to the Punjab Home Secretary, where the Pakistan National Counter Terrorism Authority warned that the terror group was planning to target the parade at Wagah border between August 13 and 15.

According to the letter, at least two suicide bombers have been sent to carry out the attack and suggested extreme vigilance and heightened security measures to avoid any untoward incident at Attari-Wagah border.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is reportedly spearheading the probable attack, said reports in the media on Friday. This comes as the unrest in the Kashmir Valley entered its 34th day, with mobile services being suspended in large parts.

Jammu IG Danesh Rana told media that, “We have already sounded high alert in the whole province in view of 15th August security arrangements.”

Adding more, “There are certain inputs which suggest that terrorists might try to infiltrate from IB especially through Kathua and Hiranagar sectors.”

Talking about the efforts the forces are taking to avoid any untoward incident, “We’ve taken special measures as far as border management is concerned. We have strengthened anti-infiltration grid, search operations have also been intensified. All that needs to be done has been done.”

According to sources, across the rural Kashmir the flag-hoisting functions are supposed to take place on August 14, which is known as Pakistani Independence Day. Areas such as Pulwama, Sopore and Anantnag and the Sopore-Doabgah-Rafiabad road are already dotted with makeshift sites in preparation for the celebrations.
