Teenage waiter shot for denying ice-cream

An 18-year-old waiter suffered gunshot injuries after a private security guard fired a bullet in air following an altercation over the trivial issue of the victim denying ice-cream to him, said police. The incident took place at around 4 am on Saturday during a wedding ceremony at a banquet hall in west Delhi’s Mundka.

Ravi Raj, a resident of Baljeet Nagar in Delhi, suffered gunshot wounds in his thigh and is undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital. His condition was stated to be stable, police said.

Raj told police that he was busy attending guests in the function when the security guard, Hari Om, who was standing near the gate of the banquet hall, asked him to bring ice-cream for him.

‘Raj paid no attention to his repeated requests. This infuriated Hari Om and he fired a bullet in air to intimidate Raj. Some splinters of the bullet hit Raj in his thigh seeing which Hari Om fled the spot,’ an investigating officer said.

A case under sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 27 Arms Act was registered at the Mundka police station against Hari Om, who was arrested later in the day. His licensed .12 bore double barrel gun, used in the offence, was also seized.
