A 19-year-old boy killed his 60-year-old father after a heated argument over money, and then tried to burn his body after leaving it in the house for two days, police said on Thursday. The accused, a Class 12 pass-out, has been arrested.
Jatin Dhiman, who passed Class 12 exam this year, was arrested on Wednesday from a red light area in central Delhi.
He allegedly killed his father, Vijay Dhiman, on Sunday in west Delhi’s Vikas Nagar after a dispute over money, which the family had received after the death of mother of the accused, who was a government employee.
The teenager was upset over his father questioning him on the whereabouts of the money received from his mother’s office, police said.
The incident came to light on Tuesday, around 2 am, after police and Fire department received a call informing them about a blaze in the accused’s house.
The fire was doused and half-burnt body of Jatin’s father was recovered from inside the house.
‘Their neighbours informed that Vijay had an argument with Jatin on Sunday. Since then, Jatin was missing from his house. Jatin was arrested on Wednesday from the G B Road red-light area,’ said the officer.
Initially, Jatin tried to mislead the investigators but later broke down and revealed the facts about his father’s death. His mother, Chandrakanta, worked in an ordinance factory and after her death, in February, he received Rs 5.87 lakh from her office.
‘On Sunday, when Vijay asked Jatin about the money, a scuffle broke out between the two. Jatin beat up his father and strangled him. After that, he left the body in the house and locked it from outside. When he came back to his house on Tuesday, a foul smell was emanating from the body. To escape arrest, he tried to burn the body,’ said the officer.
WIFE OF A RAW OFFICIAL STABBED
Wife of a RAW official was stabbed by two unknown assailants at their residence in south Delhi. The victim was identified as Deepa Joshi, 45, who stayed along with her husband and a son in Sector-3 of R K Puram.
According to police, Joshi told to them that her door was knocked by someone. She saw two unknown men, who looked like courier boys. They asked her to open the door, so that they could get inside, but she refused. Then they pushed the gate and entered the house forcibly. They asked her to give them all the cash and jewellery.
Joshi argued with them and they stabbed her. When Joshi started screaming, they escaped. She then informed the police. The official said Joshi’s statement has been recorded, on the basis of which, a case under Section 307 [attempt to murder] of IPC has been registered against the two unknown persons.
