Teen drowns during idol immersion

A teenager was feared drowned in Yamuna when he along with his friends went for immersion of Goddess Durga idols at north Delhi’s Wazirabad on Wednesday. Vikas,17, was a resident of north-east Delhi’s New Seelampur. He along with five friends was carrying out religious rituals – near Wazirabad Bridge where hundreds of people had gathered for the event – when the incident took place around 5 pm. ‘Locals immediately informed us, and we approached the Delhi Fire Service for a rescue. A fire tender was rushed to the spot,’ a police official said. A search for Vikas’s body is on. ‘Prima facie, it seems that there was no foul play in the incident,’ the official added.
