Teachers, students lead candle light march demanding arrest of DU college principal

Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) and Delhi University and College Karamchari Union (DUCKU) organised a candle light march to intensify their struggle against police inaction over the death of Pavitra Bharadwaj.

This march was conducted at the gates of the Art Faculty, as protestors raised their voice against Delhi police’s inability to arrest Ambedkar College principal, GK Arora, in a case of sexual harassment.

Teachers and activists, who addressed the marchers, highlighted how the entire university community is aghast at the deliberate inaction by Delhi police in not arresting the suspended Principal Arora. This is despite the fact that Pavitra’s suicide note clearly stated systematic sexual and mental assault, and subsequently termination of her employment.

The students’ community, which addressed the marchers said, ‘No FIR has been lodged by Delhi police against the accused who is roaming freely in the university and in the corridors of power. This has left the women community at large in a state of shock that such a thing is possible in the national capital.’

Aditya Narayan Mishra, one of the protesters said, ‘We demand an immediate arrest of Arora under section 306 of IPC, an independent enquiry to be instituted by the governing body under a retired Supreme Court judge.
