Teacher run over by speeding truck, accused arrested

A 32-year-old woman, working as a private school teacher, was crushed to death in a road accident in Noida’s Sector 52 on Wednesday morning. Police said that the victim met with the accident when a speeding dumper hit her two-wheeler and dragged her to 70 metres away from the spot. Police have registered a case and arrested the errant truck driver.

According to the police, the incident took place around 6:30 am at Hoshiyarpur intersection when the school teacher, Shubhashini, was on her way to school. When the woman was crossing the intersection, a speeding dumper hit her two-wheeler. As the dumper was driving in full speed, the woman came under the wheels and was dragged along the distance.

The passers-by, who witnessed the incident, forced the vehicle to stop.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she was declared brought dead. They also nabbed the driver identified as Indrajeet and beat him up. As the news spread, hundreds of locals gathered in the area, staged protest by laying Shubhashini’s body in the middle of the road. They blocked the road for a couple of hours, resulting in traffic jam and chaos.

“A speeding truck, bearing a Haryana number plate, tried to overtake the deceased’s Scooty from the left side but ended up hitting the two-wheeler. Shockingly, the truck driver kept driving even after the impact, instead of stopping immediately,” said an eyewitness.

Aashish Purwar, husband of Shubhashini, lodged a complaint at the Sector 24 police station. “We have registered a case and have arrested the accused,” said a senior police official. Police informed that Shubhashini, a resident of Sector 52, was teaching in a private school at Sector 45. Her husband is a software engineer.
