Tatra case: CBI chargesheets Lt Gen Singh

The CBI filed charge-sheet against Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh on Tuesday for allegedly offering bribe of Rs 14 crore to the then Army chief V K Singh in connection with the Tatra truck deal. ‘We have filed the charge-sheet under section 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act that deals with offering bribe to a public servant and named Tejinder Singh for allegedly offering bribe on behalf of Tatra trucks suppliers to then army chief for making way for the company in supplying all terrain vehicles to the Indian Army,’ CBI sources said.

They added, ‘We have filed the charge-sheet in the court of Special Judge in Patiala House Court, which was purely based on circumstantial evidence which includes Tejinder Singh’s meeting with the then Army chief after supply of trucks from Tatra was put on hold.’ Reacting on the CBI charge-sheet, Tejinder Singh, while making a statement to a news agency, said, ‘My interaction with the agency clearly indicated that there was no credible evidence found. Now with the change of government, there seems to be a change of heart in the probe agency and therefore the filing of charge-sheet is abuse of power by the people concerned.
