Tarun Gogoi visits flood-hit Goalpara district

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday visited relief camps in severely flood-hit Goalpara district where 18 people lost their lives and a population of nearly ten lakh was affected.
The chief minister visited relief camps at schools in Bolbola, Agia, Kalyanpur and Bhalukdubi, listened to people’s problems and assured them that their grievances would be redressed at the earliest, an official release said.
Gogoi directed the district administration to ensure supply of adequate food, clean drinking water and medicines to the affected and asked authorities to rebuild the houses of those people whose
homes have been washed away by the devastating floods, it said.
He directed the district authorities to provide clothes and utensils to the affected people and
books for students, while assuring that adequate compensation would be paid to the affected people.
Gogoi later reviewed the situation and relief measures for the affected people in the district with Water resources minister Rajib Lochan Pegu and other senior officials, the release said.
