Tantrik held for duping, raping woman

Delhi Police have arrested a 44-year-old Tantrik from Ambedkar Nagar area for raping and duping a 38-year-old woman on the pretext of sorting out her personal problems.

The accused has been identified as Sanjay Kumar against whom a complaint was receievd on Friday by a 38-year-old woman at Anand Parvat police station. She told police that her relations with her husband are not cordial because of which in October last year, she approached one Tantrik namely Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, through one of her known persons.

Kumar told her that there is effect of evil souls in her house and for that he has to perform some anusthan/havan. He persuaded her and extorted about Rs 35,000 from her on that pretext, saying in the coming days all her problems would be sorted out. After that Kumar organised a ceremony and burnt some intoxicating substance in her house and made her sit there. Due to inhaling toxic smoke, she fell unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she realised that Kumar had raped her. Kumar further threatened her of dire consequences, if she revealed to anyone.

On Saturday, a raid was conducted in the area of Ambedkar Nagar and Kumar was arrested by the police team. On interrogation he disclosed that generally depressed persons used to come to him and taking advantage of their helplessness, he used to cheat them by suggesting several fake remedies.
