Talks and terror strikes can’t go hand in hand, says BJP

Citing the on-going standoff between Indian and Pakistan’s special forces in Keran sector, BJP on Thursday said talks and terror strikes cannot go hand in hand and pointed out that the fight began when the Prime Ministers of the two countries were holding peace talks in New York.
BJP also demanded a statement from defence minister AK Antony on the current status of the fighting that began in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir on 23 September when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif were engaged in bilateral talks in New York.
Expressing serious concern over the fighting between Indian army and Pakistani regulars and special forces, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said ‘it means that when Prime Minister Singh was meeting Sharif on 29 September, the Indian Army was intensely engaged in thwarting this Pak-backed infiltration.’
‘We can’t talk peace alongside terror strikes and infiltrations,’ he added.
BJP maintained that the attack looks like a ‘mini-war’ and sought to know why the government was keeping this ‘under wraps’ till Wednesday.
The main opposition alleged Pakistan is indulging in all kinds of provocative activities along the border.
‘More ceasefire violations have occurred this year as compared to last eight years. There has been a sudden spurt in infiltrations supported by Pakistani regulars and incidences of ambushing Indian patrolling troops recently,’ Javadekar said.
