Taj Palace keen to renew lease, DDA mum

Taj Palace, one of the iconic hotels of the capital, has expressed interest to renew its lease for another 25 years to Delhi Development Authority [DDA], which is yet to take a call on the request.

The hotel on Sardar Patel Marg, managed by Tata-owned Indian Hotel Corporation [IHC], has told DDA that it wants to extend the lease that ends on 31 March 2013.

A DDA source confirmed the development but said no decision has been taken on this count.

The IHC wants to renew the 30-year-old lease for another 25 years and run the hotel.

However, the case of another hotel managed by IHC, Taj Mansingh, is different with its extended lease expiring next month. The 30-year-old lease of the Taj Mahal Hotel on Mansingh Road expired last year but it was extended till 10 October. Sources said now the NDMC might extend the tenure of the lease till the bidding process is over.

Meanwhile, the Urban Development Ministry has found violations in construction of two more floors at Le Royal Meridien hotel in central Delhi.
