It has been said for ages for the national Capital – Dilli to Dil Hain Hindustan Ka (Delhi is the heart of India). On Thursday, the Delhi Government went a step ahead to announce that the heart of the nation also had a hearty identity. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday announced the first-ever tagline -DILDAR Dilli – for the national Capital. ‘Delhi city in a blend of historical and modern ethos and the tagline represents the true sense and feel of Delhi,’ said the chief minister.
‘The idea for the tagline is to sum up the essence of Delhi – its history, culture, modernity and diversity. Delhi is the gateway to India and it receives a record number of tourists every year. The new identity to Delhi will surely attract one and all and will prove to be a benchmark in promoting Delhi in the Global Map,’ Dikshit said releasing the tagline at Delhi Secretariat on Thursday.
Dikshit further said that Delhi’s rich heritage is lavishly recognised across its verdant expanses. ‘It is the largest metropolis of India and it has always been a good host to its visitors. Delhi has proved to be an ever welcoming state as huge number of people from across India and world come for opportunities and settle here. It welcomes one and all with an open heart. The heartbeat of Delhi has always lain deep and steady in its culture which is firm and strong from centuries,’ siad the chief minister.
‘Delhi has seen tremendous changes over the past few years and is at par with other world-class cities. Delhi Tourism has played a vital role in bringing this change and this initiative of introducing a tagline will surely bring in heavy dividends in terms of promoting Delhi as a destination,’ she added.
The selection has been done on the pattern of the other states like Kerala, whose tagline says ‘Gods Own Country’. For Goa, it’s ‘Go Goa’, whereas for Odisha, it is ‘Halfway to heaven’. Punjab’s tagline reads ‘India begins here’, while Chhatishgarh’s state slug says ‘Full of Surprises.’ However, the crowning glory belongs to the much vouched ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ for the Narendra Modi-led western state.
‘The idea behind the tagline is to promote Delhi to aggressively promote Delhi as a tourism-friendly destination and promote it on the global map,’ said GG Saxena, Managing Director of Delhi Tourism.
The tagline was chosen from over 12000 entries received following a competition organised by Delhi Tourism for coining the same.
