Swine flu death toll rises to 13

The swine flu death toll rose to 13 on Friday, with one more death reported in the city. The latest casualty, that  of a 32-year-old man, has been  reported from Ram Manohar Lohiya (RML)hospital. He was from Merut.

Swine flu (H1N1) continues to spread in capital with 26 fresh cases reported on Friday, taking the number of positive cases to 973. An official from the Health Department of Delhi said that 'Among these around 20 cases were self detected.

He said, 'No further deaths have been reported due to the H1N1 Virus. This year, only 13 people have succumbed to the disease so far. The government is doing its best to provide treatment to people who are down with H1N1 virus in government hospitals.'

The Delhi government has designated 22 hospitals, including five private ones, for swine flu treatment.

These hospitals have been directed to provide wards for isolate extremely critical patients.

Doctors from the city hospital said that swine flu can be treated with Tamiflu medicines. Preventive vaccines are also available in the market but it is not advised for general use as per the recent guidelines issued by health ministry.
