Swift action: Cop sacked for raping 23-year-old maid

Less than 24 hours after a Delhi Police official was arrested and sent to jail for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman at gunpoint, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said that the accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been <g data-gr-id="52">be</g> dismissed with immediate effect.

Bassi added that the police won’t wait for a departmental enquiry. “Such an act on <g data-gr-id="44">part</g> of any police official shall not be condoned and we shall take the strictest possible action,” Bassi said.

On Saturday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh <g data-gr-id="45">alos</g> assured that stringent action would be taken in the case.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has launched a scathing attack on the Delhi Police and demanded that Bassi should immediately step down from the post of Police Commissioner.

On Thursday, Delhi Police ASI Jaiveer Singh (50) had allegedly raped his friend’s 23-year-old domestic help at gunpoint. A case was registered at North-west Delhi’s Rani Bagh police station and <g data-gr-id="41">Jaiveer</g> was arrested on Friday.

The matter was first reported in Millennium Post on Saturday.

Things took a turn on Saturday when Millennium Post  found that a case under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC was registered against the policeman’s friend at the Punjabi Bagh police station in April.

Interestingly, Singh, who is posted at the Punjabi Bagh police station, is the Investigating Officer in the case concerned, said N <g data-gr-id="55">Gnana</g> Sambandan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west).

Singh befriended the accused after the case was registered and often visited his house, said a source.

According to the police, the victim works as a domestic help at Singh’s friend’s (a businessman) house in Rani Bagh.

On Thursday evening, Singh went to his friend’s house and they allegedly got drunk. He, later, decided to retire there for the night as he was too drunk to return home. His friend, then, asked the victim to escort Singh to the outhouse guestroom. Once they reached there, Singh allegedly bolted the door from inside.

The CCTV footage obtained from the spot, which are being verified by the police, show Singh whipping out his gun and pointing it towards the woman. He, then, raped her at gunpoint, the source said.

In her complaint, the woman has alleged that Singh had molested her on July 5 also, but later he apologised to her and her employers. He used to tell her that she was like a daughter to him.

“Singh has been booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. He was presented before a court on Friday, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody,” <g data-gr-id="54">Gnana</g> Sambandan added.
