In a tragic incident, a 29-year-old man jumped to death from a police station in Uttam Nagar after the cops refused to file his complaint.
According to the family of Raju Narwal, the victim who is a sweeper by profession, he went to Uttam Nagar police station on late Sunday night to file a complaint against some persons who were threatening to kill him. ‘But the policemen on duty refused to file his complaint that depressed him and he took the extreme step of ending his life,’ said Mukesh, eldest brother of Raju. The incident took place at around 11.05 pm.
Ranvir Singh, additional commissioner of police (West) said, ‘At around 11 pm, he came to the police station to file his complaint. But we were already dealing with two complainants and in the meanwhile he climbed the terrace and jumped off.’
He was immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where he underwent treatment. But on Monday morning, he succumbed to his injuries.
The police are also claiming that Narwal was in an inebriated state when he jumped from the
terrace, while the family the family has ruled out the allegations.
‘Narwal often used to mention that one local meat seller identified as Parveen was threatening him. Few days ago, Narwal’s mother was also threatened by Parveen that he is going to kill her son,’ the family members claimed.
The police have mentioned that Parveen also used to lend money. ‘It might be possible that Narwal might have taken some loan from him and failed to return it. Parveen was allegedly harassing him for the same,’ a police official said.
The body has been sent for post mortem and report is awaited.
