Swaraj’s twitter flip-flop sets tongues wagging

Fuelling a controversy on Wednesday, the bio on Sushma Swaraj’s twitter handle had her designation missing for a few days, with ‘Foreign Minister, Government of India’ making a comeback on her profile on Wednesday afternoon.

According to her ministry, this is not indicative of anything. “The Twitter account is Mrs Swaraj’s personal one, she keeps changing her bio as per her wish,” said a foreign ministry spokesperson.
Swaraj has lately used her twitter account to respond to allegations and hit back at critics in connection with the controversy over her helping disgraced cricket tycoon Lalit Modi with travel documents in the UK last year when his passport had been cancelled by the Indian
government.

On Wednesday morning, she <g data-gr-id="35">tweeted :</g>“On Wednesday morning, she tweeted: “A senior Congress leader was pressing me hard to give <g data-gr-id="34">diplomatic</g> passport to the Coal Scam accused Santosh Bagrodia. I will disclose <g data-gr-id="53">name</g> of the leader on the floor of the House.”

Sushma who tweets from the handle @SushmaSwaraj, had apparently deleted the words ‘Foreign Minister, Government of India’, from her handle some time after her name was linked with scam-tainted former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, who is accused of financial impropriety.  According to sources in the external affairs ministry, Sushma Swaraj may have deleted the words because she wanted to keep the Twitter handle as a personal one, and not as an official one.
