Swaminathan hails WTO deal on food security

Eminent agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan today praised the Narendra Modi government for successfully resolving differences with the US on public stockholding of food and also complimented Union Commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman for this.

‘I compliment Nirmala Sitharaman for successfully resolving the impasse over food security and safeguarding our farmers' interest in WTO council,’ said Swaminathan during an interactive session with scientists of Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI).

Recounting his 60 years of association with the Cuttack institute, the 90-year-old doyen of Indian agriculture said the seeds of Green Revolution were sown in the fields of CRRI, where he began his professional career way back in 1954.
