The RWAs of twin cities, with the help of local authorities and Urban Development Ministry, have announced to carry out 15-day long cleanliness drive by the end of this week.
The Residents’ Welfare Association, under the drive, have claimed to say “good riddance” to their garbage. Earlier, the Noida Authority itself had allocated Rs 330 crore budget to achieve target for a door-to-door garbage collection and disposal project to make the city clean.
As per the report, the Urban Development Ministry’s Deputy Secretary Saurabh Jain, in a meeting with the RWA federation this week, announced that the drive would begin with a workshop in Noida and Greater Noida on July 10.
“The workshop will be attended by all RWAs of Noida in the presence of officials of the ministry and will entail information and methods to segregate garbage and waste materials into bio-degradable and other categories,” said N P Singh, president, Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations (FoNRWA).
Apart from this, the association will also install a compost machine in Sector 37 so that it can convert garbage, especially leaves and other similar kinds of bio-degradable materials, into compost. The compost, generated from the plant, will be used in parks and other green areas and if things go well, majority of sectors of both the cities will witness setting up of compost machines.
“Since we have to make the city garbage-free, we have decided to install a plant with the RWA fund and have decided to approach local authorities for more plants as these authorities have earmarked hundreds of crores for making the city clean and garbage-free. We will also keep in touch with central authorities for required assistance,” said Singh.
The FoNRWA president further added that those RWAs found to be carrying out successful Swachh City drives will be given certificates of recognition by officials of the Ministry of Urban Development. “The idea behind the drive is to make Swachh Bharat mission as successful as possible, spreading it to all corners with far-reaching effects. And in this, no one’s better placed than RWAs to carry out the said job,” said Singh.
Noida Authority had announced to allocate Rs 330 crore budget to carry out clean mission and had initiated tenders. The authority had decided to allocate the budget for mechanical sweeping and a waste collection-disposal project.
