At a time when the national Capital is simmering in poll heat, an SUV containing around 2,000 bottles of illicit liquor landed in the police net near east Delhi’s Geeta Colony on January 20 evening.
The driver, identified as Suresh Sharma (28), was arrested immediately. Sharma told the police that he had started from the outskirts of Gurgaon and was heading towards Noida. The owner of the Mahindra Xylo, which was impounded by the police, has been identified as a Delhi-based man named Bunty. He is absconding, said a police official. The vehicle was impounded at around 6.10 pm on January 20 at a picket near Geeta Colony. It was carrying 345 litres of a local whiskey brand named ‘Impact’.
The police are trying to investigate whether the alcohol was off to some political party’s office. However, nothing as such has come up yet, said the official investigating the case.
