Suspended Delhi Police constable, 3 others held

A suspended Delhi Police personnel and his three accomplices have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from a businessman by threatening to frame him in a fake case, police said on Wednesday.

Accused Manoj Rana, a suspended Delhi Police constable, and his three accomplices were trying to extort Rs 50,000 from a flour mill owner in Bawana in Outer Delhi.

A police team from Bawana police station arrested Manoj, who was posing as a sub-inspector in a uniform, and his associates — Deepak, Rajesh and <g data-gr-id="19">Rajjan</g> — from the flour mill last morning, a senior police official said.

The vehicle used by them and Rs 15,000 he had taken from the businessman were also recovered from him, DCP Outer district, Vikramjit Singh said, Manoj had joined Delhi Police force in 1998 and had been under suspension since 2013.

He was brought into extortion by Deepak who gave him <g data-gr-id="24">idea</g> to extort money from businessmen, the officer added.
