Suspect picked up in Gurdaspur, alert in Chamba

A man, allegedly moving suspiciously near a Border Security Force (BSF) post in the border area of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district, was apprehended on Sunday and handed over to the police.
The man, identified as Harpreet Singh alias Honey, was wearing a trouser similar to Army fatigue and was allegedly hiding in the bushes when he was caught by BSF, station house officer of Dera Baba Nanak Paramjit Singh said on Sunday.
The BSF seized his mobile phone, which was allegedly used to take pictures of Army tanks and government buildings, Paramjit Singh said.
The man was handed over to the police, the official said, adding that investigation was going on. Gurdaspur, particularly its biggest town Batala, has been on high alert as residents have been reporting sighting f suspected persons over the last few days.
Meanwhile, an alert was sounded and security beefed up in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, bordering Pathankot, following reports about suspicious movement of two persons in Army fatigue in the region.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Varinder Tomar said that information regarding movement of two suspicious persons in army uniform was received and security arrangements were tightened and preventive steps like nakas, patrolling, searches and other measures were taken immediately.
CCTV footage was scanned to pinpoint the culprits but nothing had been found yet, he said.
He said, “We had sought information from the army authorities in adjoining areas and they have informed that no army personnel was sent Himachal Pradesh.”
“We are taking all precautionary and preventive steps to ensure that no untoward incident takes place and there is no cause for panic,” he added.
