On Monday, she underwent nine-hour long surgery at AIIMS hospital, after which her condition was stated to be out of danger. However, she has suffered serious injuries on her nose, face and arms.
The incident took place early on Sunday morning, when Narain, a resident of Green Park, was riding a bicycle when an unidentified car hit her from behind near AIIMS flyover in south Delhi.
Soon after the collision the driver of the speeding car managed to escape, ‘It has not been identified as to how many persons were in the car,’ a police official investigating the case said.
However, the investigation is yet to gather any significant leads. The police official said, ‘CCTV cameras were not installed near the crime scene and the victim or passerbys at the scene have been unable to identify the car and its registration number.’
‘Narain’s statement is yet to be recorded, as her health status did not permit us to take her version,’ the official said. However, the unknown accused have been booked under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code at Hauz Khas police station.
‘A nine-hour long surgery was carried out to insert titanium rods in her arms. Her nose has some stitches and it required sutures, and may need some corrective surgeries later,’ a doctor at AIIMS hospital said.
