The Narendra Modi government carried out a major administrative secretary-level reshuffle on Friday removing Ashok Lavasa from the ministry of civil aviation to ministry of environment, forests and climate change and G Mohan Kumar from the ministry of steel to department of defence production, said an order issued by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC).
Lavasa has been replaced with V Somasundaran, who is currently serving in Kerala, while Mohan Kumar has been replaced with Rakesh Singh.
The most significant app-ointment on Friday, however, was that of Sunil Arora to department of skill development and entrepreneurship under ministry of skill development, entrepreneurship, youth affairs and sports. Arora, who was instrumental in the turning around of Indian Airlines as chairman, was sidelined by the UPA government after he developed differences with the then minister of civil aviation Praful Patel. However, his coming back to the centre makes it clear that the Modi government is determined to have the right people in the right places.
Rakesh Singh, who is working in Punjab, will take over the charge of steel secretary from G Mohan Kumar. Kumar has been given the post in place of G C Pati who has been appointed Odisha’s chief secretary. Pati is a 1978 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre.
