Instrumentation
The particular instruments used in a piece of music. Eg: Telemann's specified instrumentation of flute, violin, and continuo.
Discordant
Music discordant music sounds strange because it contains discords. Eg: The singers continued their discordant chanting.
Melody
A sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying; a tune. Eg: He picked out an intricate melody on his guitar.
Harmony
The combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce a pleasing effect. Eg: The piece owes its air of tranquillity largely to the harmony.
Rhythm
A strong, regular repeated pattern of movement or sound. Eg: Ruth listened to the rhythm of his breathing
Pizzicato
If you play a violin or other stringed instrument pizzicato, you play it by pulling the strings with your fingers instead of using the bow. Eg: "It is a pizzicato for one instrument," replied the operator.
Staccato
Music staccato notes are played or sung so that each note is clearly separate. Eg: The staccato sound of my neighbor's car horn woke me from my slumber.
