Sunanda murder case: New top cop yet to take stock

It seems that the mysterious murder of Sunanda Pushkar is not amongst the priorities of the new top cop Alok Kumar Verma who took over on February 29 after B S Bassi retired.

According to highly-placed sources, so far Verma has neither asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Prem Nath, Deputy Commissioner of Police nor the senior police officials including Special CP and Joint CP to brief him about the unsolved murder of Sunanda Pushkar.

However, all the concerned officials are prepared with the briefing kits containing all necessary reports related to the case.

“Whenever a new top cop joins, on a priority bases the officer want to know the status report of the unsolved cases specially the infamous crimes. The concerned officers are supposed to brief the top cop about the respective cases. After knowing about the status report, the top cop gives his point view on the investigation part and suggests how to go about it. If the officer is satisfied with the probe, he asks to continue without any change in the line of investigation,” a source added.

Millennium Post tried to contact Taj Hassan, Chief Spokesperson of Delhi Police, but he remained unavailable for comments.

Meanwhile, a source close to investigation of Sunanda Pushkar case said: “The top cop has not asked for Sunanda’s report. But all the members of the SIT are prepared to brief him. Two reports have been prepared by the team. One contains the pointers of the case while the other is about the in-depth details related to the case. Along with these two reports, another document has been drafted that includes the future line up of the case.”

It is important to mention that just two days before Bassi retired, he had decided to have another medical team formed in the case. After which a letter was written to the Director General of Health Services to form a special team comprising doctors and forensic scientists to examine the medical reports and evidence in the mysterious murder.
