Sunanda murder case may be transferred to Crime Branch

Its been almost two years of the on-going investigation in the mysterious murder case of Sunanda Pushkar and the murderer is still unidentified. According to a source, taking into consideration the prolong investigation, the case might be handed over to the Crime Branch post Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi’s retirement.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has given a reminder to AIIMS to submit the review of US’s FBI lab report (8-10 pages) of Sunanda’s viscera samples. The report came in November last year that ruled out polonium or any other radioactive poisoning as the cause of death. Radiation levels in the samples were found to be well within the prescribed safety limits, the FBI lab report read. The samples were sent to the US as the Indian laboratory lacked the facility to identify the poison that caused her death.

A highly placed source in the police department told Millennium Post that even after all the leads in the mysterious murder case have been looked into by the district police and the SIT, headed by Prem Nath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), the culprit is yet to be identified. “Despite knowing the consequences in which Sunanda was killed, no evidence was found against the prime suspect. All the possible forensic examinations of the samples have been done and the recent FBI lab report is with police and the hospital panel who are probing the case,” the source added.

He further added that as the investigation has led to nowhere even after two years of the on-going investigation, the case might be handed over to the Crime Branch in March after B S Bassi’s retirement that is due on February 29. “The members of the SIT were also transferred and fresh probe was started by new members of the SIT, but to no avail,” he said.
